The 2026 Portfolio Show at Southeast Technical College on April 30 highlighted the work of graduating Media Design Technology and Digital Media Production Technology students, featuring portfolios that students began creating and refined throughout their time in the program. The longstanding annual event is attended by local and regional industry professionals. This experience helps students showcase design skills, build professional connections and prepare for job placement.

An STC first! This spring, STC has published its first literary magazine. The magazine contains stories, photographs and art, created and edited by students!

Southeast Technical College students in the Horticulture Technology program were recently featured on KELO, a local news station, for their work in bringing the 2026 STC Plant Sale to fruition.

Southeast Technical College's literary magazine staff hosted an award ceremony for their third edition of "Our Story" on May 1, 2026, at the Mickelson Center. "Our Story" features poetry, essays, short stories, photography and art by students at STC. Since 2024, English instructor Laura Cruse and Digital Media instructor Patrick Frenz have facilitated the production of "Our Story" to give students a creative outlet.

Amanda Sadler, a Medical Assistant student at Southeast Technical College, recently won an award from South Dakota Society of Medical Assistants for her essay on why she chose the Medical Assistant program of study and what her next steps are.

Tristan Lake, a computer programming student at Southeast Techncial College in Sioux Falls, is a featured student in an article published by the college. Lake recently developed, coded and styled a new website for Kids Against Hunger, a local nonprofit.

Southeast Technical College students and staff took part in a record-breaking community service event as part of the Spring 2026 Service to Community (STC) Days. From wheelchair ramps to activity kits, volunteers constructed items to help dedicated staff at Camp Leif Erickson run memorable activities for campers this summer. The volunteer event was the largest single-day event in STC history with 383 volunteers contributing 496 community service hours.

Students, faculty and staff volunteered at the St. Francis House in Sioux Falls as part of Southeast Technical College's Service to Community (STC) Days. The volunteers prepared nearly 500 Trunk or Treat giveaways for an upcoming event and packed about 50 sack lunches for working guests of the St. Francis House. The St. Francis is a local homeless shelter that welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. Its mission is: "Moving people from homelessness to hope."

The Southeast Technical College Student Engagement Board (SEB) has selected its leadership team for 2025-26. President Angel Palacios, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Secretary Natalie Bruske, Marketing, and Marketing Chair Taylor Hansen, Cardiovascular Sonography, will begin their terms immediately.

Southeast Technical College has awarded 172 full-ride Build Dakota Scholarships to incoming students. The competitive scholarship covers a student's tuition, fees, books, uniforms, tools and supplies. Now in its 11th year, the scholarship program has set recipient records for four consecutive years. Southeast Technical College has awarded 164 full-ride Build Dakota Scholarships to incoming students. The competitive scholarship covers a student's tuition, fees, books, uniforms, tools and supplies. The scholarship program, now in its 10th year, has seen a record number of recipients for the past three years running.

Southeast Technical College students earned 10 metals at the 2025 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference. The competition was held April 10-11 at Mitchell Technical College.

Southeast Technical College students in Human Resource Management and Foundations of Business classes, along with faculty and staff, spent a combined 67 hours organizing and cleaning at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore facility. Over the course of two days, these volunteers helped the ReStore team rearrange and organize every department in the store. ReStore is a non-profit home improvement store and donation center. The effort was a part of Service to Community (STC) Days, a twice-yearly initative to encourage engagement in the community by students and staff.

Southeast Technical College is pleased to recognize its high achieving part-time students by granting Academic Honors for the Spring 2024 semester. To receive this recognition, students must be enrolled part-time (6-11 credits), seeking a degree and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Congratulations!

Second-year students from Southeast Technical College's Digital Media Production program are getting a first-hand look at the late-night talk show circuit as they assist on the set of Late Night Boomin'.

This past summer, Breanna Clark planted trees, helped run summer camp activities and formed life-long friendships by volunteering for AmeriCorps' NCCC Summer of Service Program. Since middle school, Clark has been interested in environmental causes such as access to the outdoors for everyone and preserving biodiversity. She plans to work in a career advancing environmental justice once she graduates from Southeast Technical College in spring 2025 with a degree in Digital Media Production.

Southeast Technical College nursing students were recently featured in a "Your Money Matters" segment on Keloland News addressing the hig demand for nurses in the region as many older workers retire.
