Southeast Technical College

Students, faculty and staff volunteered at the St. Francis House in Sioux Falls as part of Southeast Technical College's Service to Community (STC) Days. The volunteers prepared nearly 500 Trunk or Treat giveaways for an upcoming event and packed about 50 sack lunches for working guests of the St. Francis House. The St. Francis is a local homeless shelter that welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. Its mission is: "Moving people from homelessness to hope."

Thirty-four students, faculty and staff members volunteered their time preparing and serving meals at the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House in Sioux Falls. The effort was part of Southeast Technical College's Service to Community (STC) Days, that take place twice each year.

The Southeast Technical College Student Engagement Board (SEB) has selected its leadership team for 2025-26. President Angel Palacios, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Secretary Natalie Bruske, Marketing, and Marketing Chair Taylor Hansen, Cardiovascular Sonography, will begin their terms immediately.

Southeast Technical College has awarded 172 full-ride Build Dakota Scholarships to incoming students. The competitive scholarship covers a student's tuition, fees, books, uniforms, tools and supplies. Now in its 11th year, the scholarship program has set recipient records for four consecutive years. Southeast Technical College has awarded 164 full-ride Build Dakota Scholarships to incoming students. The competitive scholarship covers a student's tuition, fees, books, uniforms, tools and supplies. The scholarship program, now in its 10th year, has seen a record number of recipients for the past three years running.

Southeast Technical College students and staff took part in a record-breaking community service event as part of the Spring 2025 Service to Community (STC) Days. STC partnered with the Sioux Falls chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build 86 beds for children in the community. The volunteer event was the largest single-day event in STC history with 367 volunteers contributing more than 464 community service hours.

Emma Dickey, a horticulture student at Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, recently published a post discussing her experience as a first-generation student on the First Gen Forward blog.

Southeast Technical College students earned 10 metals at the 2025 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference. The competition was held April 10-11 at Mitchell Technical College.

Southeast Technical College students in Human Resource Management and Foundations of Business classes, along with faculty and staff, spent a combined 67 hours organizing and cleaning at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore facility. Over the course of two days, these volunteers helped the ReStore team rearrange and organize every department in the store. ReStore is a non-profit home improvement store and donation center. The effort was a part of Service to Community (STC) Days, a twice-yearly initative to encourage engagement in the community by students and staff.

This past summer, Breanna Clark planted trees, helped run summer camp activities and formed life-long friendships by volunteering for AmeriCorps' NCCC Summer of Service Program. Since middle school, Clark has been interested in environmental causes such as access to the outdoors for everyone and preserving biodiversity. She plans to work in a career advancing environmental justice once she graduates from Southeast Technical College in spring 2025 with a degree in Digital Media Production.

Erika Beck, a Sports Turf Management and Horticulture student at Southeast Technical College, was selected to participate in the Women in Turf event at last summer's Little League Softball World Series.

Southeast Technical College is pleased to recognize its high achieving part-time students by granting Academic Honors for the Spring 2024 semester. To receive this recognition, students must be enrolled part-time (6-11 credits), seeking a degree and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Congratulations!

Second-year students from Southeast Technical College's Digital Media Production program are getting a first-hand look at the late-night talk show circuit as they assist on the set of Late Night Boomin'.

An STC first! This spring, STC has published its first literary magazine. The magazine contains stories, photographs and art, created and edited by students!

Southeast Technical College nursing students were recently featured in a "Your Money Matters" segment on Keloland News addressing the hig demand for nurses in the region as many older workers retire.
